USKBTC at Responsible Dog Ownership Day 2008
As many of you know, for the past few years, the USKBTC has participated in the AKC's Responsible Dog Ownership Day event in NYC. Armed with posters, flyers, DVDs,educational material and a real live Kerry, John Garahan and Gerry Yeager manned the USKBTC's Meet the Breeds booth at the event. Please read Gerry's account of the day below, which was originally posted on uskb-list@uskbtc.com. The day offered thousands of people the opportunity to meet a Kerry and learn more about our wonderful breed. To read more about this event and other RDOD events around the country visit AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day Events.
The day also marked the launch of AKC:Lifestyle, the new fan club and community site for dog lovers and AKC enthusiasts. Over 1,300 people and their dogs posed for "Rolling Bone" cover photos, courtesy of AKC:Lifestyle. Take a look at the photo on this exclusive Kerry Rolling Bone issue. Special thanks to John Garahan for forwarding the cover photo information below.

HI EVERYONE,
Yesterday John Garahan and I, with my kerry bitch Ch. Gamgee's Guinevere, went to the annual AKC Dog Responsibility Day in Madison Square Park in Manhattan to represent the USKBTC. The weather could not have been better! The crowds were bigger than ever, and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. We had a DVD of Agility Trials from Maggie Hall and a Herding DVD
from Jann Lane. People seemed quite fascinated by the abilities of the Kerry and the versatility of our breed. Thanks to Maggie and Jann for sending me the DVDs, which were terrific.
Needless to say Gwennie in her ex pen got the most attention and pets from everyone passing by. I took a short height pen so she could stand up on the top rung and be easily reached. One young child who was afraid of touching dogs...finally pet her and I thought the mother was going to cry. THAT made the whole day worthwhile...just to see that smile and then give Gwennie a hug.
Pictures were taken by AKC photo reps and we will send what we get to our website as soon as they are available. Gwennie was also interviewed on film by a roving AKC rep from "Rolling Bone" magazine. (yes Bone, not Stone.). And to top it off Gwen passed her CGC cerification test and was in a Meet the Breeds parade representing all the groups.
John and I were both happy to represent our wonderful Kerry Blue. It was a great day!(Gwennie came home all full of herself until her brother put her in her place...he is not impressed with her celebrity.)
