The USKBTC-Charitable Funds "Kerry It Forward Awards"
Beginning in 2010, the USKBTC Charitable Funds will recognize the Kerry Blue Terrier's third dimension; its “heart.” The "Kerry It Forward" Awards will recognize our breed's canine-humanitarian contributions to the individual and to society.
The USKBTC currently honors and recognizes the Kerry Blue Terriers' first two dimensions, 1. Structure or 'form' and 2. work or ‘function’ through conformation competition at our national specialty and chapter club specialties each year and through performance events such as herding, agility, tracking, obedience, and rally, held nationally and regionally.
Kerries who are involved in humanitarian work are often the unsung heroes of our Kerry community. You may be familiar with a Kerry who has visited nursing homes, assisted living centers and hospitals. Kerries are also teachers and go to schools, helping children read, and building self-confidence. You may also be aware of Kerries who have participated in “Bite Prevention” programs. Other Kerries have chosen special missions and have intervened to save human lives. The USKBTC-Charitable Funds will be honoring these Kerries each year through the “Kerry It Forward” award.
The application will be posted on the USKBTC website and is in the summer issue of Blueprints. If you need a copy of the application, you may also email me directly. Deadline for applications is June 30, 2010.

If you are aware of a Kerry who meets the criteria, and you are a USKBTC member, please consider nominating him or her. These special Kerries often do not seek recognition and owners may need your encouragement. This is our way of thanking them for their contributions.
For 2010 only, we will be honoring those special Kerries who have contributed and meet the application criteria, but have passed away.
There are five categories: Service Dog; Therapy Dog; Educational Service Dog; Exemplary Companion Dog/Act of Exemplary Performance; In Memoriam; (see application for definition of categories)
Please watch the website and Blueprints for their special stories.
To know one is to love one and to love one is know how very special our breed can be.
This is one way we hope to honor that special dimension of our breed.
