Update
Your USKBTC Board of Governors for more than a year now has been carefully considering
strategies to ensure the long-term well being of the Kerry Blue Terrier. We are
keenly aware that the USKBTC is the official organization recognized by the American
Kennel Club with the responsibility for protecting and promoting Kerry Blue Terriers
in the United States. As steward of the Kerry Blue Terrier in the United States,
the Club has sought ways to increase financial and informational support for the
breed within the Club and AKC structures.
To that end, we are pleased to announce formation of THE UNITED STATES KERRY BLUE
TERRIER CLUB CHARITABLE FUNDS, INC. The goal of the USKBTC Charitable Funds is
to provide, in perpetuity, a safe, secure means for breeders, exhibitors, owners,
and friends to contribute financial support for education, health and genetic
research, and rescue efforts for Kerry Blue Terriers. The Charitable Funds is
independent of the USKBTC Board of Governors but linked to our governing board
through interlocking directorates. This arrangement assures that the Charitable
Funds will be a permanent giving option to the Kerry fancy but will buffered from
the ebb and flow of fancier personalities and politics.
The professionally managed USKBTC Charitable Funds, when fully operational in
2003, will offer options for endowments as well as various funds of particular
interest to donors. There will be a permanent endowment fund to which you may
make donations the principle of which will remain permanently in the endowment
fund. You also will be able to give to those efforts that matter most to you and
to which you prefer that your donation be immediately disbursed. Because the Charitable
Funds is accountable to the USKBTC, you will know that management and distribution
of your donations are monitored by the USKBTC through audits of the Charitable
Funds.
The initial members of the Board of Directors are Barb Beuter, Gretchen Quinn,
Donald Wilde, Tom Rodgers, and Carl Ashby, Chair.
The Charitable Funds has filed for a 501(c)(3) ruling from the Internal Revenue
Service. The processing will take 3 to 4 months. Donations made during the review
period are "tax deductible," once the Letter of Determination is received
from the IRS.
The initial fund open for contributions will be "rescue." Over the course
of the next 12 months other specific funds will be opened for donations.
Members of the USKBTC and other friends of breed should know that there is no
connection between the Kerry Blue Terrier Foundation, a private Foundation established
by John Van den Bergh, and the United States Kerry Blue Terrier Club and/or the
United States Kerry Blue Club Charitable Funds, Inc., nor is the Kerry Blue Terrier
Foundation endorsed or supported by the USKBTC.
Donations and/or bequests to any charitable organization should not be made without
considerable research into the entity to which the donation is going to be made.
For more information, please contact Carl C. Ashby or Donald E. Wilde.
