2026 USKBTC Sportsmanship Award
The Board of Governors, building on an award created by the American Kennel Club, is seeking candidates for the 2026 Sportsmanship award.
All nominees will be reviewed by the Sportsmanship Award Committee whose members are Chris Brill-Packard, Chair, Sharon Burnett, Kathryn Dixon, and Connie Robbins, USKBTC Governor. The Committee will review all submittals and determine three nominees who will be presented to the membership for selection through a vote.
Nomination Guidelines
1. Nominees must be current USKBTC members.
2. Nominations will be open April 15 - May 15, 2026, on the USKBTC website
3. Please read the criteria below, which cover six areas. Then, write why your nominee deserves this award in one or several text boxes. You DO NOT have to complete all 6 criteria...only those that support the reason for your nomination.
4. Text in each box will be limited to 150 words.
5. The committee will review all nominations, and then a Ballot will be sent to the current USKBTC members for voting.
6. Voting will occur via Survey Monkey from June 1, 2026, to June 16, 2026.
The winner will be announced at the USKBTC Annual Meeting in October 2026. The winner will receive an AKC Sportsmanship Medallion and recognition from the USKBTC.
Award Criteria
1. Contributions to the Sport: Nominees should have made significant contributions to the sport of purebred dogs, whether through breeding, showing, or participating in events.
2. Promoting Sportsmanship: Individuals should promote good sportsmanship in their interactions with others in the dog community, including fellow competitors, judges, and the public.
3. Positive Attitude: A demonstrated positive attitude and encouragement of others, fostering a welcoming environment for newcomers and experienced participants alike.
4. Community Involvement: Active involvement in local clubs, organizations, or events that support the dog community and its values.
5. Integrity and Ethics: Adherence to the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior in all aspects of dog ownership, breeding, and showing.
6. Passion for the Sport: A genuine love for purebred dogs and a commitment to promoting the breed and the sport. Nominations can be made by individuals or clubs, and the award is given annually to recognize those who exemplify these qualities
